"Tour of Missouri" Cycling Event
September 13, 2007
Location:  Branson Landing

Branson hosts the third stage of Tour of Missouri September 13th, as 120 cyclists compete in mountainous terrain in the Ozarks. This event is part of the prestigious six-day, 600-mile race though Missouri. Inspired by Tour de France, an elite European cycling event, Tour of Missouri seeks to increase awareness of the sport of cycling and promote wellness and a healthy lifestyle in the United States.

Located in the foothills of the Ozarks region, Branson is an obvious choice for this event because of its unique setting and wide array of attractions. The Branson community is eager to host this event and its participants, including both American and international cycling champions.

The third leg of the race begins at Branson Landing, the newest addition to Branson’s lakeside historic downtown district. The cyclists ride north on Branson Landing Boulevard toward Highway 65, where they continue for a one-mile stretch. The route shifts northwest on Branson Hills Parkway and then onto Highway 248 as cyclists enter Branson’s residential area. The route takes a sharp turn east on Highway 465. At Sunrise Drive cyclists make a loop and continue west on Highway 465, then south toward Highway 76. The finish line is at Shepherd of the Hills Homestead and Outdoor Theater where fans cheer each arriving participant.

With beautiful scenery and the natural wonders of this route, the Branson leg of the Tour of Missouri might be the most dramatic one because of steep elevation and mountainous terrain of the Ozarks. The cyclists also race against the clock in a Time Trial setting, meaning participants will leave the start line in one-minute intervals.
