"Branson Doesn't Forget" Veterans Homecoming tickets going fast

With a little over a week to go before Branson rolls out the red carpet for thousands of veterans, officials say events are booking up quickly.

Branson Veterans Homecoming, a tribute to all veterans and active military, will begin Nov. 5 and the Branson Veterans Task Force is expecting one of the largest group of veterans in the event’s history to converge on the Tri-Lakes Area.

“There are all sorts of things going on and all sorts of dignitaries that are gong to be here,” said Marlyce Stockinger, who is co-chairman of the event with Steve Weyher. “We are just so excited.”

Arlen Lipper, office manager for the Task Force, said Wednesday at the organization’s monthly city-wide meeting that nearly 700 have already reserved spots at the week’s opening ceremonies; more than 1,000 people, with 20 on standby, for the closing ceremonies; and 150 people to be attending the “Branson Doesn’t Forget” Ball.

Stockinger said about 150 veterans had also signed up to take a ride on the Branson Scenic Railway, “and about that many” for a trip on the Showboat Branson Belle.

“These numbers are awesome to hear,” she said.

Weyher said the Task Force is also selling posters, banners and packages including ribbons that will allow business and home owners in the area to adorn their buildings with blue and orange, the official colors of the event to show support for the veterans who will be visiting during the celebration.

“What we’d like to do is get the town really acclimated to welcome of veterans,” Weyher said.

“Branson Doesn’t Forget” will run from Nov. 5-11 and will feature entertainers such as Pat Boone, Moe Bandy, Barbara Fairchild, Lee Greenwood and Mike Hammock.
