Branson Landing is edging closer to completion. The $420 million public-private retail destination located on the city’s downtown Taneycomo lakefront opened partially in May, and has continued to add shops and restaurants since then. Over the weekend, the boardwalk, which stretches along the 1.5-mile development’s lakeshore opened, allowing people to stroll alongside Lake Taneycomo.
Denise Bazdarich, of Simi Valley, Calif., enjoyed the boardwalk on Wednesday. “It’s nice,” she said. “I think it’ll be a nice restful area off the beaten path, after dinner or something.”
Marilyn Fifer, of Collinsville, Okla., enjoyed the walkway’s proximity with the town square’s large fountain display. “I think its gorgeous,” she said. “I love the water displays.”
According to Rick Huffman, CEO of HCW Development Company, who partnered with the city of Branson in building Branson Landing, there is only one space left to lease in Branson Landing. “We’re done leasing except on a 5,000-square-foot spot,” he said. “I’ve had dozens of offers for it, but I’m holding out for something with casual menswear because that’s something we don’t have yet.”
Huffman said that a contract was signed last week on a marina for the northern portion of the Landing. He also said Bass Pro Shops will continue to develop a former floating restaurant building into a new restaurant. Huffman said he was told by Bass Pro Shops owner Johnny Morris that the store is doing better than expected.
Still to be completed are several condominiums, a hotel and restaurants. Adjacent to Branson Landing, a convention center and Hilton hotel are scheduled to open in Aug. 2007.
